IMS

IMS

Over the past 10 years, IMS (or more technically, intramuscular stimulation) has become an incredibly popular treatment technique for patients.  This is largely because many patients experience great outcomes.

IMS or dry needling (these terms are often used interchangeably) involves inserting tiny needles into muscles to help resolve pain, release tight muscles, and promote healing.  In order for physiotherapists to treat using needles, they must have undergone extensive post-graduate training and be registered as an IMS practitioner with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia.

Contrary to some beliefs, IMS or dry needling should not be overly painful.  It may be uncomfortable at first, but the most common response is a mild muscle ache or cramp, and possibly even a muscle twitch.  After treatment, you should experience better range of motion in the body area being treated.  Your physiotherapist will educate you on how to manage any post-needling soreness shall it arise.

In the clinic, we see many conditions that are successfully treated with IMS. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • chronic neck or back pain
  • whiplash associated disordered (motor vehicle accident injuries)
  • shoulder impingement syndrome or rotator cuff strains
  • osteoarthritis of the hips, knees, and back
  • tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Achilles tendinopathy

If you’re unsure whether IMS or dry needling can help your injury, or if you have any other questions about this treatment, give us a call and speak to one of our physiotherapists. We’ll be able to help answer your questions.

Active Rehab

Active Rehab

Active rehabilitation programs are one-on-one physiotherapist-guided exercise programs for any person requiring active therapy.  These programs are typically structured as “mini” personal training sessions in our gym.

Active rehab is most commonly done for patients injured in motor vehicle accidents.  These exercise sessions can be done concurrently with physiotherapy, massage therapy, and/or chiropractor treatment, and are typically funded 100% by ICBC (in most cases) with no additional cost to you.  We also commonly perform active rehab programs for patients who may need reconditioning due to significant absence from physical activity due to events such as surgery, pregnancy, etc.

Your physiotherapist will help determine if you are appropriate for an active rehab program by completing a thorough assessment of your condition, and discussing your suitability with your family doctor.  The goal of active rehab is to help you return to daily activities at home, at work, and recreationally.  Our active rehab programs are mostly based out of our South Surrey location, to best utilize the array of exercise equipment on site.

If you have questions about our active rehab program, or think you may be an appropriate candidate for exercise-based therapy, give us a call.  If it’s for an ICBC claim, we’ll liaise with your family doctor and ICBC to get the program going for you.

Sport Physiotherapy

Sport Physiotherapy

When people think of physiotherapy, rehabbing sports injuries is often the first thing that comes to mind. Not surprisingly, most of our physiotherapists first began pursuing their careers in this field after rehabbing their own sports injuries growing up.

No matter your sport or competitiveness, we have you covered. We treat a wide range of both professional and amateur athletes. Most of our clients are either student athletes or those participating for general fitness or fun.

Some of our elite athletes are professional golfers, dancers, runners and hockey players. At the collegiate level, we have clients from both the NCAA Div 1 and the CIS competing in softball, track and field, lacrosse, hockey, volleyball and basketball. We’ve also successfully treated many players from Major Junior hockey (primarily the WHL), and Junior A hockey (BCHL). Our national level athletes include those from diving/swimming and rugby.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Our clinic is owned by physiotherapists who live in South Surrey and White Rock so your opinion of us matters.

Perhaps your doctor, family member, colleague or neighbour recommended our clinic, or perhaps you found our site while researching physiotherapy clinics around South Surrey or White Rock.  Either way, you may be wondering what kind of services we offer, what makes us different, and how we can help you.

Our therapists offer a comprehensive set of physiotherapy services.  These services include: manual therapy, exercise therapy, IMS (dry needling), acupuncture, traction, ultrasound, cold laser, TENS, taping, electrotherapy, and active rehab, just to name a few.  Over the years we’ve performed these techniques on a daily basis to help thousands of clients suffering from a huge range of conditions.

The services we offer aren’t why patients keep coming back, and it’s not why patients keep referring their family and friends to us.  In fact, most clinics offer a similar set of physiotherapy services and modalities.  What makes us different is we’re a boutique physiotherapy clinic – physiotherapy is what we do, and we’re really good at it.  Our physiotherapists have achieved some of the highest professional credentials found anywhere throughout Metro Vancouver and the province.  In fact other physiotherapists from around the region come to South Surrey to see us for mentoring and training.  To top it off, we are a UBC Faculty of Medicine approved teaching facility.  To maintain our high standards of patient care (and so you’ll enjoy your time with us), we ensure our therapists are not only awesome people, but have achieved, or are ambitiously pursuing the highest post-graduate credentials and certifications the profession offers.

Does our approach work?  We think so!  Word of mouth referrals are our #1 source of new clients.  Whether your injury is nagging back pain, or you recently had a major joint replacement surgery, we can help.  Give us a call or drop us an email to get started.
